Laura reminded me of things I was going to tell you but forgot.
First the bus ride to / from Heyquehue: In the morning we were on a loaded 20 passenger bus. We left Pucon and a few km out of town hit the dirt road up to the park. A steep gravel road full of switchbacks. Barely wide enough for two vehicles to pass on. We trundle up to the park.
So, why am I telling you this? The bus to the park was fine, but come time for the 5:30 bus home there must have been more than 30 of us waiting for the 20 person bus. No problem - stack 'em in like cord wood. Laura is on my lap (next time I get to sit on her lap). Off we go and the driver is in a hurry. Down those steep switchbacks, wondering when the bus last had its brakes checked and thinking, "We're going to die!" We didn't of course, but it was exciting. Reminded me of buses in Mexico many years ago.
Ian - We met a park ranger brandishing a machete.
