January 19 - Around Puerto Natales

Hi:
Well, there is more than one way to skin a cat!  The cat I´m trying to skin is a Spanish computer.  My computer is being stored at yesterday´s hostel (along with a bunch of other junk) until I return from Los Torres.  I´m in a different hostel now because they were full tonight.  I couldn´t sign onto the blog because somebody else is signed on and I couldn´t sign them off.  So, I changed browsers and I am signed on here (in English).

The Spanish keyboard has some differences.  My favourite is the ¿ key.  Spanish questions have a ¿ at the front and a ? at the back.  Example ¿Donde esta la baño?  They also have a € key (Euros) and two different shifts for most of the keys.  However, acting like a "Monkey writing the Encyclopedia Britannica" I manged to fumble my way through it.

Onto today.  I headed downtown towards the docks and got caught in wind and showers.  It´s been black and ugly most of the day.

Another view of downtown from up the hill.  Another nice boulevard.

I´ve seen these in Santiago and here.  They appear to be public exercise machine parks.  The mechanics of each machine are such that the user pushes against his own weight.  Ingenious, so long as you don´t get your fingers caught

Down at the waterfront is this boat graveyard.  Mostly wooden boats, 25 - 30 feet long.  The one in the centre has "Se vende" painted on it.  ¿Any takers?

How about this one.  Check out the name.

It got miserable after this, so I wandered around with the camera in my pocket.   It´s nicer now, so I might take another shot or two, but don´t hold your breath.

I´m off to Torres del Paine for 7 days, returning on the 26th.  I have a rest day on the 27th, so I hope to have some spectacular pictures for you.  Then over to Calafate on the 28th (bus and room booked).

A couple of last minute comments.  This browser doesn´t have a spell checker, so I apologize in advance for the (poorer than usual) typing.  Also, the clouds have lifted - there is some fresh snow on the tops of the mountains!

Last photo - check out the colour of my bedspread.  I´ll have to sleep with sunglasses on.

  1. The town doesn't look like a frontier town. It is bigger than Kye Bay.

Love the colour of you comforter.
